STREISAND DECLARES 'GLOBAL WARMING EMERGENCY'

THE SUPERSTAR SONGSTRESS SERENADED SAWYER WITH STORM SEASON ASSERTIONS. BUT TO SOME SHE'LL SOUND MORE LIKE A WINDSOCK SINGING LIBERALISM'S GOLDEN OLDIES!

NEW YORK -- This summer's back to back superstorms are proof positive we have entered a new period of "global warming emergency," artist/citizen Barbra Streisand warns.

Streisand is back on the scene to promote her reunion disc with Barry Gibb.

As hellstorm "Rita" churned in the Gulf, Streisand sat down for a promotional interview with ABCNEWS's Diane Sawyer.

"We are in a global warming emergency state, and these storms are going to become more frequent, more intense," Streisand urgently declares.

But Sawyer did not remind Streisand that a Category 5 hurricane struck the Bahamas with 160 mph winds -- when the singer was five years old, in 1947!

And when Streisand was 8 years old, a Cat 5 hurricane -- named "Dog" -- packing 185 mph churned-away in the Atlantic.

When she was 9, a Cat 5 storm named "Easy" ripped the seas with 160 mph sustained winds.

Streisand was 13 years old when "Janet" hit Mexico with 150 mph winds.

Streisand was celebrating her sweet sixteen as "Cleo" formed with 140 mph.

At 18, Streisand read news about "Donna" AND "Ethel" -- both storms carried 140 mph winds and formed 9 days apart in 1960!

One year later, when Streisand was 19, it happened again: Two Category 5 storms scared the world: "Carla" and "Hattie!"

"Carla" maxed out at 175 mph winds the year Streisand made her television debut on "The Jack Paar Show."

And who could forget Hurricane "Camille" -- which smashed into the United States with 190 mph, just as "Funny Girl" garners eight Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Picture and one for Barbra as Best Actress.

Up next on the weather warning watch, Streisand says to ABC: "There could be more droughts, dust bowls. You know, it's amazing to hear these facts."

I wonder how long it took the make-up people to get her looking somewhat decent. The pics I've seen of her as she normally is are grusome indeed. How anyone can be that arrogant and ugly a the same time is beyond me!

But then there is Michael Moore isn't there?

I love her voice and don't find her ugly at all. But I do think she's strange, to say the least.

Interesting post.

bushcheney08,
Keep telling yourself global warming is just a liberal conspiracy if it makes you feel better. Ignore Streisand and read what actual scientists are saying about the mean temperature of the Gulf, about the ice in the Arctic Ocean and about the permafrost in Siberia. And I mean actual, peer-reviewed scientists, not paid political shills and PR flacks from the Discovery Institute. Keep sticking your head in the sand...

By the way, what is with the Michael Moore hang-up on the Right side of the aisle? Frankly, it's a little psychotic, don't you think? It's not like he started an illegal war or ran the country in to debt so the rich don't have to pay taxes. Perspective, people!

gayle,
I confess a bias against Streisand; I had to watch Yentil in high school and write a report on it. Oy, gevault!

I dont think that global warming is a liberal conspiracy. I think that global warming will eventually happen. However, I dont think its happenend yet. The only evidence weve seen of overusing natural rescources is a buildup of carbon dioxide in our air.

Yeah, i noticed that, it seemes that the hurricanes become worse every few years or so... it's more of a pattern. I DO believe in global warming, yet I think some people are taking it a tad bit too far.

I know this isn't related, sorry, but my dad sent me this and I just had to post it.

2 States, 22 Observations
Things I have noticed while watching media coverage of the recent hurricanes.
1. Texas: Productive industrious state run by Republicans.
Louisiana: Government dependent welfare state run by Democrats.

2. Texas: Residents take responsibility to protect and evacuate themselves.
Louisiana: Residents wait for government to protect and evacuate them.

3. Texas: Local and state officials take responsibility for protecting their citizens and property.
Louisiana: Local and state officials blame federal government for not protecting their citizens and property.

4. Texas: Command and control remains in place to preserve order.
Louisiana: Command and control collapses allowing lawlessness.

5. Texas: Law enforcement officers remain on duty to protect city.
Louisiana: Law enforcement officers desert their posts to protect themselves.

6. Texas: Local police watch for looting.
Louisiana: Local police participate in looting.

7. Texas: Law and order remains in control, 8 looters tried it, 8 looters arrested.
Louisiana: Anarchy and lawlessness breaks out, looters take over city, no arrests, criminals with guns have to be shot by federal troops.

8. Texas: Considerable damage caused by hurricane.
Louisiana: Considerable damage caused by looters.

9. Texas: Flood barriers hold preventing cities from flooding.
Louisiana: Flood barriers fail due to lack of maintenance allowing city to flood.

10. Texas: Orderly evacuation away from threatened areas, few remain.
Louisiana: 25,000 fail to evacuate, are relocated to another flooded area.

11. Texas: Citizens evacuate with personal 3 day supply of food and water.
Louisiana: Citizens fail to evacuate with 3 day supply of food and water, do without it for the next 4 days.

12. Texas: FEMA brings in tons of food and water for evacuees. State officials provide accessible distribution points.
Louisiana: FEMA brings in tons of food and water for evacuees. State officials prevent citizens from reaching distribution points and vice versa.

13. Louisiana: Media focuses on poor blacks in need of assistance, blames Bush.
Texas: Media can?t find poor blacks in need of assistance, looking for something else to blame on Bush.

14. Texas: Coastal cities suffer some infrastructure damage, Mayors tell residents to stay away until ready for repopulation, no interference from federal officials.
Louisiana: New Orleans is destroyed, Mayor asks residents to return home as another hurricane approaches, has to be overruled by federal officials.

15. Louisiana: Over 400 killed by storm, flooding and crime.
Texas: 24 killed in bus accident on highway during evacuation, no storm related deaths.

16. Texas: Jailed prisoners are relocated to other detention facilities outside the storm area.
Louisiana: Jailed prisoners are set free to prey on city shops, residents, and homes.

17. Texas: Local and state officials work with FEMA and Red Cross in recovery operations.
Louisiana: Local and state officials obstruct FEMA and Red Cross from aiding in recovery operations.

18. Texas: Local and state officials demonstrate leadership in managing disaster areas.
Louisiana: Local and state officials fail to demonstrate leadership, require federal government to manage disaster areas.

19. Texas: Fuel deliveries can't keep up with demand, some run out of gas on highway, need help from fuel tankers before storm arrives.
Louisiana: Motorists wait till storm hits and electrical power fails. Cars run out of gas at gas stations that can?t pump gas. Gas in underground tanks mixes with flood waters.

20. Texas: Mayors move citizens out of danger.
Louisiana: Mayor moves himself and family to Dallas.

21. Texas: Mayors continue public service announcements and updates on television with Governor's backing and support.
Louisiana: Mayor cusses, governor cries, senator threatens president with violence on television, none of them have a clue what went wrong or who?s responsible.

22. Louisiana: Democratic Senator says FEMA was slow in responding to 911 calls from Louisiana citizens.
Texas: Republican Senator says "when you call 911, the phone doesn't ring in Washington, it rings here at the local responders".
What if state and local elected officials were forced to depend on themselves and their own resources instead of calling for help from the federal government? Texas cities would be back up and running in a few days. Louisiana cities would still be under water next month. Republicans call for action, Democrats call for help. What party will you be voting for in the next election?

James, one thing that your post fails to recognize is that Rita occured AFTER the devestation of Katrina was seen. Certainly it has already been acknowledged that mistakes were made during Katrina, but hindsight is 20/20, and certainly Katrina's horrible results were not foreseen. Things went different in both places, for many reasons, hardly any of which have to do with politics. Thanks though, Mr. Republican, for once again using tragedy as a political selling point.

I see that Saint is still having fun attacking me on this post. I took the time to answer him (one last time) on the "Bush's Potty Note" post. I'm not going to waste any more of my time with him here.

Anonymous: That was a very interesting comment (the "22" point thing your dad sent to you.)
Thanks!

BC08-I didn't mean to make it sound like I was making fun of you. Sorry about that! Liberals like to call conservatives evil, so I think we conservatives should just embrace that! I support drilling for oil in ANWR. I've had liberals accuse me of hating the environment because of that! Of course they don't ask for more info, they just say goofy stuff! I love it! It makes me laugh!

We conservatives need to be careful when using sarcasm on BCO8's post. Sarcasm sometimes goes undetected by the young. Some of my relatives used to drive me nuts using sarcasm. Youth is very literal. No fault of yours, BC08... We adults are not necessarily better because we are adults, you know. I don't think its necessarily a good thing to be able to "dig" at each other with sarcasm the way we do, but we do... it's the natural way of almost all adults, except for the dense ones, and you are definitely not dense!
